Abstract
The research described in this thesis sets out to examine the of Māori television production in New Zealand and its broader perspective into the world of television. On the face of it, there appears to be no capability between and Māori and the demigod and Māori television production. It is this seeming i.e. the protagonists versus the mainstream antagonist. The contemporary environment of Māori broadcasting best illustrates Māori media as the site for this thesis. By contemporary the author meant the practitioners have worked with during his time in media. The contrast will provide the essential reasoning and understanding advanced through deeper research. Clearly the author face to face witnessing over twenty years is how the author goes to answer these questions, not solely by using literature but by talking about work in action, first-hand experiences. It includes scrutiny of the many idiosyncratic dilemmas in the conflict of Pākehā domination versus Māori subservience. Māori have yet to find their own niche, one that is uniquely Māori, uniquely Indigenous and uniquely Aotearoa - New Zealand.
